.. I'm guessing yes..

BMW have just (under duress) fitted non-RFTs to my 335i, but the steering now feels very strangely.
Previously, this was solved my reactivating the flat tyre monitor.
However, they deactivated this (without my agreement), so I'm slightly stuck.

If I get the flat tyre monitor reactivated, will this solve the problem?

cheers,

Im not sure what happened the last time you had your tyre pressure monitor "activated" (pumped the tyres up perhaps?!) but the flat tyre monitoring has nothing to do with steering feel or anything else, all it does is monitor each wheel's ABS sensors, when a tyre goes flat its rolling radius decreases so the wheel starts rotating faster relative to the other 3, which the ECU senses and flags up the warning. When you say the dealer had deactivated the monitor, I think what they've actually done is simply re-set it which you need to do whenever you change tyres, if you go into the onboard computer Im sure you'll still find the tyre monitor reset option in there somewhere.

The change in steering feel will be due to softer sidewalls you invariably get with non runflat tyres that arent designed to run with no air in them, the sidewalls flex a bit more so the steering feels a little more vague on initial turn in. Don't worry, you get used to it, all the other benefits of non runflats far outweigh this minor drawback.

Thanks for the response... the Flat Tyre Monitor in settings is, now, greyed out so cannot be selected - so I can't get to the option in this menu.

However I guess if it doesn't impact steering I'll have to rely on actually noticing (tcch!) that the tyre is punctured if it ever happens!

All very confusing, I cant understand why they'd disable it? If I were you I'd be taking it back and demanding they turn it back on again, because its a standard feature of the car and AFAIK theres absolutely no reason to deactivate it simply because you're running regular tyres.

Seconded - the flat tyre monitor works just fine on my E61 now fitted with conventional tyres - gave me early warning of a small screw in the tyre last winter.

+3

I had non RFT's fitted on my 550 Msport at my local indy. The TPM system worked fine and later on did warn me about a puncture....as intended....do you have room for a space save tyre or carry Tyreweld or similar?

Get them to reactivate ffs!!!
