Anyone had any experience of one of these kits (or similar)?

What sort of performance gains have you seen?
How reliable have they been? (especially under constant use, e.g. track day)
How have they affected the life of other/existing components?

I suspect it's cheap for a reason, ie, you get what you pay for!

On top of that you'll still need an intercooler, air hoses, down pipe, exhaust and a means of modifying fueling and sparks.

I've no experience of that kit but I have an e30 325 I've been turboing and it's cost a shed load more than that.

Doesn't the last paragraph mean that it doesn't need an intercooler and just runs off the main oil flow?

Is 6.0psi good, bad or mediocre in turbo terms?

I wouldn't bother. The kits are good for a rough guide but you will need to replace every part if you want any kind of performance and reliability. Also they are not a fit and forget set up either. You need to get the car properly set up and monitored on a rolling road. The way I was going to do mine was with the manifold from one of the kits and the turbo and bits from a Volvo T5 and remapable ECU.

On 6psi, you could probably get away without an intercooler, but it would always help.

6psi wouldn't give much power anyway, 50-70maybe?

Those kits are mostly designed for euro and US cars as the UK steering rack gets in the way of some parts.
I'll bet there are hundreds of those kits sitting in sheds after people bought them and realised they aren't going to be easy to get running.

eh?
All turbos need an oil feed - and ideally a coolant feed as well.

Intercooling refers to cooling the output of the turbo before you feed it into the inlet.

As noted above, requires all the cold side plumbing and your engine remapping to suit boost. 6Psi into a std motor will give a reasonable return IMO, but you dont want to go too far past 8psi on a standard engine.

Its a chinese turbo and manifold - so the quality is unknown.

Well that's a thread closer hehe

70bhp for £600 was reasonably attractive until that point.

Seriously, they have been doing supra stuff for years, i've seen turbos fall apart on the dyno.

there's an e36 supercharger kit on ebay, only £2200, just missing an all important custom bracket...

Got a link? 'e36 supercharger' isn't bringing anything up for me.

Yes, I know honey. I know there's no point asking the nice man for a link to the item. I know I've spent a small fortune already and the car doesn't actually look any different to when I bought it.

Despite the kit selling for £7,500ish when new, you don't really got a lot there, an intercooler isn't too expensive, various idlers etc, the main part in a single charger without the bracket to get it all to work.

The ASAs need an oil feed and a drain too, so you need to drill a hole into the sump as well.

The same sort of charger was done by DA Motorsport, although his website doesn't show much, and now has the message "Please Dont Send Any Requests, We Dont Take Orders"

A decent, reliable conversion will cost circa 4 to 5k. These people make good manifolds: http://www.666fabrication.com/e36topmount.html

Got my e30 one from them, it's built like a nuclear sub!
