Rejecting an X3 due to front diff problems
Discussion
Looking for advice regarding a used BMW X3 that I purchsed a few months ago from a small independent. Took it for a test drive, everything seemed fine, paid my money and then collected it a week later. As soon as I was in traffic I noticed it juddered alot so when I got home, rang said dealer explaining the situation and took the car in to my local BMW dealer who diagnosed it as a front diff that needed replacing at a cost of £1800!!.
I informed the dealer that I bought it from and he spoke to a friend at his local Sytners who said it was a problem with tyres not the diff. Changed the rear tyres to BMW-approved ones and the problem more-or-less went away but I still wasn't 100% happy. Just took the car on a short trip along the M-way and after a bit of shopping, the diff problem has reared its head again. I have had the car for about 3 months, clocked up about 700 miles but I'm looking to reject it as it seems like a can of worms.
Any advice about the best procedure to go about rejecting the car would be greatly appreciated.

Am surprised that the tyres should make such a difference. Sounds a bit iffy to me.Is it due to depth of tread and overall rolling circumference differences between front and rear wheel/tyre combinations?. If it was permanent 4wd,this MAY make a difference, but my immediate thoughts are that the tolerances shouldn't be so tight. I'd want my money back and chose another make of SUV.
My understanding (from what I've read on tinterweb) was that I have to give the dealer 3 chances to fix the problem and then can reject it after that if the problem hasn't been rectified?
I was surprised that the tyres made such a difference too - they are the approved sizes, it was just that the rears weren't BMW Star-approved, just boggo Falkens. The dealer seems a really nice bloke but I think he will stop being so nice if I maintain that it is the diff that needs fixing - he's adamant it isn't but that's what my local BMW dealer has diagnosed and I don't see any reason to doubt them.

Why did you buy from a shonky dealer instead of BMW?I was surprised that the tyres made such a difference too - they are the approved sizes, it was just that the rears weren't BMW Star-approved, just boggo Falkens.
