I have been asked to get a car running so it can be moved to lurk in a different location whilst it waits for its owner to commence the restoration, when cranked it makes no attempt to fire and I can not hear the pump run when I turn the key, I was thinking of bypassing the relay in case that is the fault but not sure of its location on this model, any ideas???

No first hand knowledge but other BMWs of that era have the relays under the ECU cover.

If it's not under the cover in the engine bay (fuses and relays occupy a fairly obvious box on models of that era) then it could be under the back seats.

This site may help though:

Select the model and you should be able to have a look around the 635 section to get some clues as to where the relay is.

If you are standing at the n/s front wing looking down into the fues box the fuel pump relay is on the bottom left of the fuse box.

...and according to my handbook, fuse no 11 is the fuel pump fuse, just in case you want to check that too.
