Oil filter housing shenigans
Discussion
Hello,
a post of no great consequence but I thought I'd share that I've just spent an hour and a bit putting in two rubber mounts that hold the oil filter housing on my E38. The last ones literally fell apart last oil change so I picked up two from BMW for £8. For what is effectively 4 small bolt in an easy to access part of the engine bay its one hell of a fiddly job. Not enough clearance to get a spanner/socket in coupled with uncooperative bolts and the problem that there was nothing to grip as the rubber mount was just pulling apart in fragments. Slightly concerned that the barge might be at that age now where a lot of rubber components like that will start to go. Part of the joy of bargain barging I guess.

I did this job as soon as I got mine and it was easy - not sure why you are having difficulties - I seem to remember involving an electric drill and no spanners went near it till assembly time with new partsa post of no great consequence but I thought I'd share that I've just spent an hour and a bit putting in two rubber mounts that hold the oil filter housing on my E38. Have you done the heater hose at the back of the engine bay - now that is a pig of a job on the V8's and a very common failure point on E39's and E38's
