318d SE E90/E91 gearknob

Evening all, (or morning/afeternoon/night)
I've recently acquired a 10 plate 318d SE tourer as a company car.
I find the gearshift too long for my liking, so off I went BMW to enquire about a sports gearknob from their lovely accessories catalogue. To which they told me that it’s not available on my model???
Are the gear sticks a different length between the ES/SE & the M Sport models or is it just the knob that longer? (I'm sure this'll get some sarcastic remarks)
Has anyone changed their's in the past?
