Ok I have a dilema! I've owned this saloon R-reg 528i with 155k miles for 7 years, bought as an AUC, had the nickasil block changed on purchase so 70k to 155k on new block, well serviced it is mechanically perfect all electrics work etc. etc., with excellent black leather interior. However bodywork wise it is quite shabby with a dent on the front wing, bit of rust on arches etc. etc.

It seems to be me like it is somewhere between a car and a set of expensive components and hence I don't know where to get rid of it. Ebay, Autotrader,?? what's it worth like this? for someone who was handy with spanners who'd got a cloth seat 5 series with a blown headgasket and a slurry autobox, my car would be the perfect donor car !!

All advice much appreciated, needs to go asap.

Ebay would probably give you the best return as you can provide enough pictures to backup the description - as long as you're clear then you shouldn't have any time wasters.

No one wants 130k big engined barges. Mines in good condition inside and out, max I would advertise it for is £1500 but I doubt I'd get any intetest.

Sold my E39 528i with 105k for £1700 two years ago having paid £2500 three years ago.

you'll struggle to get much more than £1200 tops for it. Mad i know as great cars but petrol engined barges are two a penny nowadays

Yep those are my sentiments too sadly, hence why it feels more like a bag of parts for someone who's had a crash/mech failure or a middleman. However more fool the people who wants to spend £16k on a new tractor golf when for £2k you can drive around getting 35-40mpg out of a 530/528 fantastic cars long live barges for the value motorist !

To the average Joe anything over 2 litres is big. The 528 may be a barge but she's no slouch. Plus THAT 6 cylinder noise when your beaning it, gorgeous cloud9

Anything over 1.4 seems to be big, whereas, truth be told, anything under 2.8 is tiny.

Just six cylinders seems ungenerous... wink

I suppose this makes my other car (540 touring 4.4litres) positively unsellable, just as well as I plan to drive it until it is outlawed, or until I can buy a jag micro turbine hybrid !!!

I'll have it? Seriously! Or are you saying that because it's worth so little, you're keeping it? Where are you based?

In Dorset, probably keep it for at least the winter, but if I decide to sell I'll let you know.
