E46 330i engine oil?

A mate is wondering which is best and the grade.
From memory I think its 5w-30 Castrol somethingorother.

Can anyone advise?

You need a BMW LL01 spec oil. GSF sell Fuchs 5w-30 LL01 oil which is good value.

The newer LL04 spec will work also.

5w-30 is the one - Castrol Edge seems fine for when mine needs the odd top-up

I've always used Mobil 1 in the M54.

Castrol should do the job though, since BMW recommends it for these models.

Castrol 0w-40 for me, doesn't seem to burn a drop.

I thought BMW used 0w-30 Castrol Edge. But it could be my memory playing tricks as it was over 8 years ago my Dad had one new.
