Well it's been a whole two months since the last time something plastic expired on the st heap wink , so it was bound to happen rolleyes If it wasn't such a nice drive, I would have been shot of it years ago.

Sitting at some traffic lights in central London today and the plastic banghead part of the radiator decided to let go mad

Anyone know of a supplier of cheapo radiators? The cheapest I've found is about £100, which is too much for a 12 year old car IMO.

Well I would have thought £100 is bloody good - I'd not risk going SH for a known weak area

No, definitely don't want SH.

£100 isn't too bad I suppose, it's just that I've thrown so much money at the f-ing thing recently......... I'm just being tight wink

I can understand that but the current one has lasted 12 years - not bad all things considered - esp when you theing of the temperature cycles it's been thro

Its getting old and they are common failures. Everyone said to do all cooling related items in one sitting, i kept doing it as it failed which cost me more in the long term.

So to be clear, change:
the radiator (plastic tank splits, fins balloon out)
water pump (bearings)
thermostat (electric item, doesn't open, causes overheating and ballooned radiator - not nice when you have already changed the rad previosly)
hoses (I never did mine)
viscous fan (siezes, breaks up - slices hoses and wiring loom - dents bonnet and wrecks the shroud)
A mate with a 97 540 also had the cover inside the V corrode and start leaking (in addition to the above)

GSF and do the waterpump while it's out IMO.

I've changed all of the above over the four years I've owned it, apart from the rad.... until now.
