BMW Z3 3.0L GOOD BUY?
Discussion
Coincidence: I own a TVR S2 and I will pick up my new Z3 3.0 this saturday.
Until now my comparisons are based on test drives, but the Z3 is a good replacement for the TVR if you're looking for a better everyday car. It offers the same sensations, but more filtered, with even a but of luxury thrown in. The raw thrill of the TVR isn't there though.

I've often thought the Z4 3l would be a nice buy, but can't help feeling that only 228bhp would be dissapointing. Am I wrong?
You are wrong. It only weighs about 1300kg so it really does feel quite quick. 0-60 is under 6 seconds.

It depends what you are used to. I drove one (3L) after my S2000 and it felt lumpen and slow. I drove another one recently (another 3L) and it was good fun. I wouldn't take one over a Boxster but each to their own.bga said:
Interesting, sounds like the Si is the one to go for. The on-paper figures look like they give a healthy improvement.
It's a great car - much better value than a Boxter - for the same money you're looking at a much older Boxter, less power and big bills. The Boxter is a different drive - more polished car to be honest, but the Z4 does the big front engined roadster thing. Revs beautifully through, sounds awesome at the top end, loads of torque too.In fact, my old Si is on sale at Cooper Tunbridge Wells for £16,380 - 56 plate car with 27K miles. That's cracking value from a dealer.
I looked at a Z3 but was put off by the fact that both cars I looked at had the problem with the spot welds in the boot floor broken which is a well documented failure of the diff mounting and expensive to put right...
Dont know if i was just unlucky... but its certainly one to look for if you are buying.
Lift the boot carpet and look hard at the spot welds across the boot floor. If any show hair line cracks or there are slight rust stains around the weld, walk away unless its cheap and you can fund an expensive repair.

Had a test drive the other day of a z3 3.0i sounded great and pulled like a train it was a late 2000 model with 51,000 miles and full service history, im picking it up this saturday! its got a set of Hamann wheels on? im paying £5350 , Book says 231 bhp. Also friend says with a remap you can get nearer 250 bhp does this sound possible? It would be good if it was as the extra torque would also be nice.

Nice looking cars will put some pics up after i collect her on saturday. I cant wait, how are the 3.0i on fuel do you find them juicey.
Hmm.. Surprisingly I found little difference between my 2.2 3.0 and M3.. If I drove the 2.2 more economically then maybe. But I always had to drive hard however the other 2 engines have plenty to spare..The 3.0 litre is sweet.. You will want the M next. I can guarantee that
