I've seen a 330i Sport I quite like, so I'm wondering what I should be looking for.

It's an 03 with 60k on the clock, and it's an automatic.

Are there any common problems?
Does the car rust in any particular places?
Is the autobox any good?
Is it due any big bills?

Bushes, cooling system, rust on front arches, rear springs, power steering failures etc.

Make sure there are no clunks coming from the box. Switch from D to R a few times to check.

Under proper care they are fabulous cars.

Ensure Reverse works correctly, if it doesn't drive in reverse this could be the start of expensive fix.

Yep, I'm a Moonie! I wanted your car!

At the moment I have no idea what I want next but a cheap 5 wouldve been ideal!

Call me crazy but I am sure the OP knows to check PRND and surely dodgy PRND applies to any automatic car :P

Ok...You are crazy.

This is how to check on the E46 steptronic. The OP may not have had an auto before, so thanks for your extremely useful comment.

Actually I found the info useful, so thank you. You're right. I've never had an auto.

LOL, yeah and not by driving it checking the gear changes, torque converter locking, holding gear etc.

Yeah real good advice.
