I'm seriously considering a foray into BMW ownership particularly a 330D for commuting. I've driven several petrol 6's and had a previous company 320D which left me a bit cold.

So as for a 330D the key to ownership here is a dollop of useful torque and fuel economy, however, the question is what realistic fuel consumption can i expect from a 330D at both extremes of the spectrum (particularly sprited use) and what sort of issues on a 4/5 year old example can i expect?

I've had a look in the search engine which hasn't really answered this one, so i'm interested in heraing from existing owners without any reason to justify their purchase.

Any other ownership info on this model would be greatly appreciated

Mine was 4 1/2 years old with 57k when i sold mine recently and had no problems what at all. The engine was a peach for a diesel and only issue was it used a little oil (about a ltr between services 6-8k). Everything else worked and felt just like new when sold.

Mpg was pretty consistently around 40 mpg. Hard driving or town would see it drop to mid 30's at worse, and best was mid 40's sitting at 70mph. Mine was a manual though so take 2-3 mpg off for auto.

Ouch, how many miles are you getting out of them?

We run an E90 330d it's a fantastic car. It's an 06 and we've covered 67,000 miles in it. Its used a small amount of oil. Rear tryes last about 20k, and we just replaced the discs at 62k.

It's fast, economical, comfortable.

We should be changing it about now, but it's doing such a good job why bother.

apart from the fact it is a diesel?

My mate has one so far it has had a problem needing a new turbo which is allegedly something to do with the oil breather system. His turbo disintegrated and all the bits went through the exhaust damaging the cat/DPF

They also allegedly have problems with the "swirl flaps" disintegrating and the screws getting sucked into the engine and wrecking it

My mate's now has problems with the DMF

These are not things I have experienced, just things my mate with a 330D Coupe has told me about
