Dear all,

My E39 has made a few short runs, then stood unused for 10 days or so, with the not un-expected result that the battery is flat. Attempts to jump it off my GTA have not proved successful, so, the obvious thing is to pull it out and charge it up.

But.... when I disconnect the battery, the alarm goes off (as the owner's manual says it will when there is "an interruption in the supply from the battery". What the manual doesn't tell you, either in the alarm section or the battery/charging section, is how to disable the alarm, such that one can take the battery out for charging.

I am sure that some of you know the solution to this; I would be very grateful if you could share the information...!

Thanks.

Luke

I don't know the solution, but when it happened to me last week the alarm only sounded for a short while (15-20 secs, I'd estimate).

I would charge it in the car, but it is not outside my house... in another road, in fact. Such is life.

Oh, and the alarm did cut out, but kept coming back on again - I might persevere, and see if it stops.

OK, the alarm did go off the first few times I tried disconnecting the battery, but eventually gave up - thanks for the pointer Forsure. Battery now on charge, and problem solved.
