Just bought a really nice black 1997 525TDS manual with upgraded alloys and everything working at what i think is a decent price.

One thing i've noticed though is that the turbo doesnt kick in until around 2000 revs upwards, afterwhich it seems to pull quite strongly. At 1500 revs for example its quite clearly off the power band. This leads to quite a lot of gear changes to keep the pace up, though on motorways its a very relaxed cruiser.

I appreciate its a 13 year old car, with maybe a 15 year old engine design, but does that power band sound normal?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like classic turbo lag to me.

Fair enough then.

Well pleased with it for the money.

thanks. was a bit worried in case there was something wrong, but given the age of the engine design. I guess it was state of the art at the time, but that was a long time ago now.
