I've decided on an F10 520d for my daily schlepping, I'd speced a saloon and hadn't thought about the touring but when I went to the dealer today they had a touring in and what a good looking car it is. Really suits the overall lines of the F10 so decided that would be just the ticket. (I don't need the extra space but just like the looks plus there won't be so many around)

However when I put my choosen spec on it I'm 2k over budget so the decision is do I take 2k worth of spec off or stick with the saloon.

My choosen spec was

Visibility pack
Dynamic pack
Pro media pack
Comfort seats
Sports auto
VDC
USB
Heated seats
Sun protection glass
Ambient lighting
Fine line Anthracite woody bits...

Knickers, wish I'd hadn't gone in now and just ordered the thing over the phone.

Surely in the context of a 30-something grand car, you just lay down the extra £2k, eat beans on toast for a month if necessary and enjoy having an absolutely superb car with everything you want in it?

If it counts as advice I went a bit 'poverty' with my 330i in aid of getting a lot of 12-month old car at a cheap price and kind of regret it now. Also look at the used market and you'll see that a touring will command a decent premium when you come to sell it.

Touring, it's got to be, after having an E46 M3 and going to an E91 I just couldn't cope with the useless saloon bootspace

Is the dynamic package and sports auto REALLY necessary on a 520d??

Not really but when has that ever stopped anyone....I want auto and the difference between the standard auto and sport auto is only £110 so doesn't solve the issue. The dynamic pack just makes the car look better nice wheels etc...and because its the small engine doesn't mean it can't look good.

I'm getting a touring and saloon for the next 2 weekends to test I guess I'll get a better idea of the spec I need and what makes sense when I drive them both.
