Comfort Access - E60 550i sport
Discussion
Popped into the dealers today to get some new wiper blades (ouch!) and whilst there I asked if they could do a screen dump of my cars spec as I have all the paperwork but no details of the sold spec upgrades. Turns out the car has the keyless comfort access option however the only key I have (yes I will get another spare next month) is not one of the two that would have come with this option setup. They can kill the other lost keys and reprogramme mine and a new key but I was warned the keys go flat quickly if they are not used - ie inserted into the column where they re-charge through an inductive loop.
Anyone have this option and advise if how quickly the keys go flat. Don't want to payout to have an option I wont use very much thats all as putting the key into the column is not that much hastle and could wait till I sell the car to get it re-programmed as a selling point.
Out of interest I was also advised that when you change the cars battery you need to have the cars electronics reset so that it monitors the battery properly or electrical issues can occur. Mines fine but has a Varter or similiar battery fitted which raised the service managers eyebrows... that worries me in a BMW dealers as I was bent over looking in the boot with him so in the prime position for a right seeing to!!!

I have comfort access on my 335d, so I guess the same electronics.
The battery in the keys last for ages. I'm sure I didn't put the key in for the first year (18,000 miles).
I don't think there is any electical requirement on the key (RFID) if you don't use the remote blipper, so can potentially last forever.
