Seem to be some tasty deals around on the 650i.

This is the first Approved Used one I've seen below £20k

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/auc/car_details/0,,1260...

And the BMW site has five below £25k, including a 2007 model. Helluva lot of car for the money!

That's an awful lot of car for the money, i'd just be scared though that although it has depreciated a lot so far IMO there's still a lot of depreciation left in it, i reckon trying to shift one with close to 100k would be a nightmare

Yes, you can always choose to drive a very old and tired car and lose no money apart from higher maintenance charges. I do so with some of my cars, but sub 20k for a 650 is pretty good depending on the mileage - you might lose 15k in 5 years I guess? Most probably spend more on Cappuccinos over the same period.

if planning to keep it 5 years i think it'd make a great buy, it's more like if it was a year or two where IMO you'd take the biggest hit as i reckon you'd probably only get 10k back for it

Looks like we agree - 3k per year depreciation is peanuts - depending on one's means ofc.

You're right.

The trick would be to keep it for a long time.

Are these bargains a result of the upcoming new model, or a reflection of the current doom and gloom about the economy?

The new model wont affect the value much of a 5 year old car.

They are seen to mechanically complex, hard on fuel, high running costs, high insurance, so they will always drop heavily - and cars like this always have.

You mean an expensive luxury car is expensive to run... only if you think running one will be similar to a Mondeo. The driving experiance is in another century to said cheap Ford so the maintenance of it will be higher, having said that my 550i sport version is very good in my opinion and Im far from loaded like some. If someone wants it cheap soon its going for about 14k. smile

Yes, an expensive luxury car can be expensive to run - and that puts a lot of people off. Hence why they depreciate heavily.

I'm more of a 535d man myself, having had two so far. Would love another but just built a house, and cant afford to do both! frown

I have a 645ci convertible - cracking cars and not at all high on maintainence as long as you have a good warranty smile Apparently the x45i (N62) engine is better than the x50i one as it won the engine of the year award where as the x50i dint win any awards..

Averages around 23mpg around town and on a nice motorway run 30mpg. Tyres are the same as any 19" tyre, servicing costs are around the same as an E60 5 series with a petrol engine. Insurance is expensive but then it would be on a 4.5 litre convertible.

If you want one I'd say do it - and that V8 rumble cloud9
