I have been looking at a BMW 318d M sport to change over into and would like some help
with some info about the car.
What sort of MPG will this model in a manual give me, my current Saab gives me around 47 to 50 mpg.
Also I have been reading that the car is designed with Run flats, would it invalidate the warrenty or my insurance if i changed over from them to more cost friendly rubber.

other than that whats the servicing bills like.

many thanks.

I cant imagine it would invalidate the insurance. changing tyre types/brands is not a modification.

As for warranty, i'm led to believe that any claim that relates to or is affected by the change of tyres would not be warranted.

The MPG I cant help with although i'd imagine similar figures to your SAAB.

You can get a 5 year/60k service package for £300. Sounds good to me. I'm almost persuaded to get a 318D M Sport.

Hi mate,

I have a 320D M Sport (E90 shape 5dr) I manage to get 53.4mpg on the motorway on a run doing 85mph constant, yes all the new BMW 3 series come with run flat tyres (RFT's) apart from the M3 (I think) & Alpina models. As for how they run I can't really complain for what they are. Obviously if you like driving your can't go wrong with a set of normal tyres and a can of flatmate in the boot. But I have the optional 18's with RFT's on mine and I'd say it runs satisfactory...But also M Sport springs don't help the ride...

Not sure when it comes to the warranty, it's probably best if you give your local BMW dealer a shout on that. Service bills I wouldn't say much more than a franchise VW or Audi dealer, but there's a few BMW specialists about anyway.

But as a car the 3 series is a very good car, and in M Sport spec you seem to get nice touches like the anthracite headlining & other classy touches. And Obviously it's a rear wheel drive, so good fun in corners etc.... and it does handle very well.

Overall I'd not have second thoughts about having another one & I'd recommend one to people who like their cars.

Hope this helps mate!
Ben

Ben thank you thats very good mpg on a run , what do you get around town and would the 318 give me the sme sort of mpg.
I ask as I was looking at a Merc 200d(untill I test drove the BMW) but found out that the 220 gives better a return as the motor is not working as hard.

thank you all for the info.

No worries mate,

Well around town on my way to work in ring road traffic stop start etc... I'm usually getting about 29 - 33 ish, but I do drive a bit quick (so some people say) lol i'd image that the 318 would give similar kinda of mpg.

At the end of the day it depends on where your heart lies... if you want reasonable economy, but like going out for a run on a Sunday in the countryside & having some fun, i'd go for the BMW. But on the other hand if you like wafting about go for the Merc. But obviously i'm slightly biased. lol

But as a convert from a Vw the BMW is pure style.

(Ohh by the way, word of warning, people don't let you out at junction in a black BMW, they'd sooner see you burn in hell) lol

Hope this helps...
Ben

Dont think admitting to driving "a bit quick" in stop start traffic or around town is too clever. BMW drivers get enough stick without playing up to the cliche....

We'll (my non speeding friend) I wasn't trying to be clever! I was merely stating the fact that if you drive a bit quick MPG figures do suffer. But if you want to talk about clichés, how about writing useless information on someone's thread on a forum, which bears no relevance to the topic stated... wink

I really would recommend a 320d instead - the 318d really suffers from its comparative lack of power and 6 speed gearbox. For the first time in I dont know how long I was having to swap cogs on a dual carriageway just to keep pace with traffic. Unacceptable IMHO.
