After just over 3 years, 67,000 trouble free miles my 535D has left the building frown

If you ever have the chance to own an x35, you won't be disappointed and try to do so. Many threads have rightly taken the piss, but it's a great engine and the 535D is a great car. Not sure when or what will be next but the 535D will be one of those cars I will talk about for some time to come....

As seen earlier this year.....

Hi,

Ive just sold my E39 M5 and bought an E61 535D.

The piss taking only comes from the fact that the straight line speed is very close to that of most M cars, but those with a M like to affirm its pecking order in the BMW range.
This obviously meets with those who maybe havent owned an M car but have owned a X35D and therefore feel as though they are competition.

But of course you know all this but it only comes clearer having owned both smile

Yes the 535D is a good car. It is very civilised on the daily grind and yet can surprise on a run.

Here were my initial thoughts... 535d

Any ideas what you'll be replacing it with?

Currently I have no plans to replace the car.

I own a business that like all has seen a massive downturn over the last 18 months, and I've decided that whilst we are making money I'd rather not spend money on my cars but rather on employees and growth to secure the future, save money where I can so I'm driving an L200 currently!

Despite the Autocat article I moved from a 911 to the 535d and I intend to go back to a 997 C2S, just not sure when.

Enjoy yours, lovely looking motor!

As you say there is lots of (entirely appropriate) piss taking associated with 335d/535d but they are great cars - I love mine. From time-to-time I give some idle thought to changing cars but I'm not sure what I would replace it with - it's plenty quick enough for what I want (it is not remapped), returns around 33 MPG and has loads of interior/boot space.

It is a struggle to better it and of the F10s I have seen so far none of them look great - maybe if I see an M Sport spec car I might like it.

We have the same engine in an E70 which is also a great piece of kit.

(All that said they will never match the sound of a 997 with PSE!!!)
