fitting non run flat tyres
Discussion
its been done to death i know, but having spent saturday morning being told by more than one tyre fitter that they wont fit anything other than run flats to my BMW, despite me having purchased the tyres myself, it got me thinking.
Presumably others have had this point blank refusal from people claiming that fitting non RFTs invalidates your warrany and insurance and adversely affects the handling characteristics. One fitter told me it was "not right" to fit them. Course.
Does anybody else think that a sticky, or a list of those garages, by area, who are prepared to fit non RFTs would be useful? Or do you think this would risk incurring the wrath of BMW and other such powers that be on such issues?
interested to hear other peoples thoughts

I've fitted non RFT's to my current X5 and my previous 535d, I didn't have any problems finding people to fit them once I'd found a tyre of the right spec. With my X5 I'd wanted to fit some Michelin Diamaris as has read lots of posts from people saying they liked them.....was told by Micheldever they wouldn't fit them as they had the wrong load index (which I confess I had never heard of) but that was the only reason and they suggested alternatives.
Personally I think it's just tyre fitters trying to get you to buy RFT's off them as they are expensive to buy and "non repairable" (so good repeat business) though you can easily find people to mend punctures on them too. RFT's are a high margin product....end of.
You might want to ask them why on some BMW's now RFT's are a cost option now (i.e. you pay to make your car worse riding and more expensive to run)......I guess BMW aren't that bothered about fitting normal tyres.
