I need to purchase a new turbo for my E46 320d (M Sport model if it matters), it's an 04 model with the variable nozzle turbo set up. It needs a new turbo after recently having swirl flap issues.

Does anyone have any suggestions or links to trustworthy companies that sell replacements. I'm quite happy to plump for a recon unit, the car is on 100k+ so I'm not necessarily bothered about forking out £1200 for a unit from BMW.

Thanks

Sam

Motormec list Turbos for E46 320d from £729 + vat.

Or you could try to get a S/H one from someone like Quarry Motors, FAB etc

What is the cars mileage/history? My turbo failed at 52k. With FBMWSH, I asked for a goodwill claim from BMW UK and they paid for the parts, I paid for fitting. Worth a try.

The turbo is failing as a result of the swirl flaps failing. BMW were prepared to pay for the parts to sort the whole issue (they recommended a new engine) but I declined. I ended up getting it fixed myself for about £650, the final part of the repair is the new turbo. I've budgeted about £750 for it. I'll still be many 10's of hundreds of pounds under the cost it would have been had BMW sorted it. As an aside, it's been repaired using BMW parts fitted by a BMW senior technician, only not in BMW's premises.
