E36 328 sport wheels on an m3? (winter wheel/tyres)

I have a set of e36 328i sport wheels and was wondering if I could fit snow tyres and then put them onto my e46 m3? I know e36 to e46 standard wheels are transferable, but the m3 I think has offset wheels front to back. Having snow tyres will be great, but not if the handling balance gets all screwed up!
