Extended Warranty did you/have you got one - 335i
Discussion
Hi,
I find myself thinking that it might be wise to have a warranty on my 335i, I beleive the HPFP is now covered for 10yr/120000miles, Is their anything else covered past the after 36mths
What else have people been expected to pay for in their 335's, how good is BMW UK customer services re acknowledging common faults on these cars.....
How many people extend their BMW warranty past 36mths, directly with BMW or a third party?
my car has started stuttering on cold starts, misfire on cylinder 1 I believe......what would you do ?

I've just bought an extended warranty for my 3 year old, 28,000 mile 335d. I'm paying about £40 per month for BMW's comprehensive scheme (no excess) which I thought was very reasonable for the peace of mind should something like a turbo go t*ts up in the next year!

Hi Pete,Pete
I just got a quote on mine through BMW/Mondail for a lapsed policy, it was £914yr so somewhere near £72mth, If I were to have a £100 xs it would bring it down to £713yr, And with £250xs (which is ridiculous) would cost £538.
Warranty wise quoted online £592, but have called with £492 or £44.75mth + a £35 admin fee, or 24mths for £852, And 36mths for £1203.
Warranty direct are looking at £589yr.

I wouldn't own a modern BMW without a warranty. We've had misfiring issues on our 330i 4 times and it isn't even 3 years old.I find myself thinking that it might be wise to have a warranty on my 335i, I beleive the HPFP is now covered for 10yr/120000miles, Is their anything else covered past the after 36mths

So do BMW send you something when you get near 3 years or do you have to actively ask for a quote ?
They write to you with a renewal quote and login details for the warranty website, assuming that BMW have your details as the owner of the vehicle. The snag is that you need to renew with BMW *before* your factory warranty or AUC warranty expires. After that you can still buy a warranty, but it looks like they really ramp up the price and can request that the car is inspected by a dealer.
If your car is coming up to 3 years old I would call BMW Warranty to check.
Cheers,
Pete

One of the criteria for re-newing/extending your BMW warranty is that it must have full BMW service history and not have been touched by anyone else, i.e. indies..... I found out the hard way.
Checked this with Warranty Direct today - been advised I can use specialist indy for servicing, they also revised my online quote from £589yr to £475 for "Extra care" level cover inc wear & tear (not clutch/brake pads etc) & have a rolling mthly payment of £39.58....the price of motoring in a 335.kwacker9 said:

How many miles has the car got? I got a quote for the top BMW cover and it was about £500 IIRC for a 335i sub 60k.
Mine has 61k.FWIW, I wouldn't entertain any other policy than the BMW one but each to their own. What price to go for a more limited policy (eg drive train, named components or whatever they call them)? That way you are covered for any major expense.

Yeah, I know... timing is everything! Easier to plan if you do fewer (or at least consistent) miles I suppose. I understand it's an insurance policy (run by Mondial to make them money!) so I guess it depends how you view risk. No right or wrong answer. The "comprehensive" warranties don't cover wear and tear items - brakes, exhaust, clutch or "trim" for example. There is a list of excluded items. Fairly sure ECU/iDrive etc covered but would need to check policy docs. Happy to send details if of any interest as I have as pdf.

Is that for an annual payment, and what excess?kwacker9 said:
