Car is a 2002 e39 530i.

They've worked fine up until now - what a time to stop!

Push the button, little green lights come on, but no heat at all.

Any ideas?

Check the fuse box as a first port of call.

If however they have failed then that is very poor. The wifes old Volvo 460 1995 reg car had heated seats worked perfectly mind you that was only 1 setting.

Does the passenger side work or not?

Are you absolutely sure they have stopped working? It may sound obvious but they take a lot longer to warm up when the outside temperature is extremely low. If your car has been sitting outside all night at -10degC and you only have a ten minute drive to work in the morning, then you may not feel them getting warm at all, especially if you are also wearing a thick coat.
