so my e39 v8 will start then cut out it will go but norm takes a few goes.

diag says cam position sensor (112)

so i fitted a brand new one and cleared the fault codes today.

car starts first time runs nice.

problem solved i thinks.

go to drive off and as soon as i try to drive off back fires and cuts out.

check the fault codes cam position sensor (112)

refit the old one back to the old problem

WTF???

When I replaced them on a 528i and 323i my machine had a "camshaft position sensor replaced" function which erased the code and sorted the running problems

BMW or pattern part? Non BMW cam sensors seem to be a bit hit and miss.

so today i got another sensor just incase the first was faulty.

tried that and no joy still wont run right with the new sensor fitted.

however i did discover that it will run with out the cam sensor connected.

little confused by this one

Don't know what it is about non BMW sensors but they often don't work.

i must say its a first for me. i have used aftermarket sensors on lots of cars including bmw and had no probs. but there is clearly somthing in it.

dose'nt seem to have made much difference to the running apart from fixing the starting issue.
it feels like it pulls a bit better at the top end too.
