e39 Swirl flaps...

Anybody took them out?

I tried to do some homework on this, and not sure if my car is affected. Its a 2001 530d Auto. I looked on realoem and my car says its 2002 buid year! - I looked under the manifold and I think I can see the rod that runs along which controls the flaps... but I read that my car should not have them...confused.

Stories,advice gratefully accepted...

You have the M57 engine which does have the swirl flaps issue.

www.swirlflaps.co.uk is the place to be. You will need to properly take the manifold off to get the flaps out and to fit the new blanks in.

Thanks for this. I read on a different site (PMW) that only newer updated engines were affected. but reading others it seems to be less certain. I think im going to have to take the manifold off to have a look!
