E46 320Cd - Servicing B.S. From BMW?
Discussion
Hi All,
Car is due for an oil service at 59k miles so have been investigating likely costs. I'm wary of main dealer servicing as I had a previous E46 which I took to a main dealer and got absolutely fleeced for what turned out to be a poor job.
I went into Stratstone Harrogate just before Christmas and the bloke on the service desk (after looking at my service book) suggested that, as this will be the third oil service, the car will need a good deal of work and to budget between £450 and £600 for the service. I am, at best, massively sceptical!
My question is, is this purely BMW dealer B.S. or is the quote based on fact? Does the car need more work on a third oil service? Is this work likely to be greater than that required on an inspection II (which appears to be £299 on my car as Stratstone do the value service mentioned on the BMW website)?
My inclination (as I'm going to keep the car for at least 3 years, and cover a lot of miles) is to take it to Atlas Auto Services near York, but I'm as yet undecided.
Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated!
Cheers
Matt

An oil service is £119 on the "value servicing" price list isn't it?
The guy behind the desk is obviously an arse and doesn't know what he is talking about,
maybe he means to budget for more as they are going to phone you up whilst they are carrying out the oil change to tell you you need new tyres, pads, discs etc like they did to me whilst mine was in for inspection 2.
I just told them to finish the inspection and not to do anything else to my car, my advice to you would be to get it done at a reputable indy as recommended on here, there are some great places out there and a hell of a lot cheaper

My car is at 45k and due an oil change at 59k so i am behind you but would expect nothing else than a simple £119 oil change to be done if i go to BMW.
Book it in for that and they should have no reason to quote you anymore than £119, perhaps just go to a different guy behind a desk to book it in.
