Ipod Connectivity - am I being a thicko?

hi - i'm new to the BMW area of PH (haven't had my car long)

i'm struggling to get my music to play on my BMW through my iphone.

Does anyone know if it the USB cable is only good for charging?

Do I need an AUX cable to get the music to play?

i've just used the USB cable from the charger on Iphone......that is how it connects to the PC etc. I assumed obviously wrongly that would do the trick!

£40 from BMW or £20-£30 ON Ebay.

If you want to take a chance there are a mass of copies from Hong Kong on Ebay. Personally I stuck with the OE which I maaaanaged to pick up for £24 inc P&P
