Loss of power

I have a 2001 530i Sports auto. I recently went to overtake when I was using cruise control. When I accelerated I lost engine power and the EML & ASC lights lit up. I was able to continue my journey home at low speed. After switching the engine off for a while and restarting the EML light did not come back on and everything seems back to normal. Was this caused because I has the cruise control on and floored it or is it likely to be something else that I need to get checked out?

Happened to my E46 on the Autobahn last summer. Did the same thing as you and it never happened again, very strange.
