Z4 Speedo baseline stuck at 30mph over real speed

My Z4's speedo is stuck showing at around 30 mph higher than the real speed. Even with the car switched off, it still shows 30mph.

Can anyone suggest any fixes ? Or is it a replace the dash kind of job ?

Is the odometer racking up miles as well whilst it's switched off as well? - could be seriously bad news, 720 miles per day you are not doing. Still, on the bright side, the mpg must be phenomenal

Not too sure on the odo - just happened in the last fifteen minutes of my drive. The speedo does change the displayed speed, so surely the mileage must be racking up.

Sounds like the needle has somehow spun on the shaft, hence when the stepper motor is at rest against the stops, it still shows 30mph. Need to take the cluster out, pull it apart and reset the needle zero. No idea why it should have spun though, they are normally glued on etc

This probably wont work but it maybe worth a try? I used to get this problem on some BM's but never while driving only when parked slamming the door shut made it return to normal

Update - It is now completely stuck, at 100 mph.

All fixed now. The car's ECU was reprogrammed today and it seems fine now. Might be an expensive fix if the problem returns.
