Guys, good morning!!!

I am servicing my car (should i say a select group of mechanically minded friends are!) on Saturday, and a mechanic friend has told me i should perhaps just buy one of the "service kits" from ebay.

Contains the following:
1142247392 Oil Filter
1332787825 Fuel Filter
1371247444 Air Filter Element
64319216590 Microfilter

My man in the know, is telling me i should really replace my "crank case breather"??

Any ideas what this might be called, or if it is required or generally any info at all about this part?

TIA!
MP

Crankcase breather/oil breather. Should be changed if not done previously, old type one had internals looking a bit like a small loo roll. This is prone to blocking and can lead to turbo damage. New style one has a plastic swirl type internal and should not need changing in the future. Dealer should sell the internal part which will fit in your current housing for the part. From memory I think it's around £20.

This weekends going to be fun. wink What time you coming over on Saturday mate?

Ollie boy is going to be well chuffed. Because his Mk2 burns so much oil now, he uses 'used' oil. I've got 6 litres from servicing the V70R to give him, you'll have another 8 ish. Should keep him going for a week or two. Saves us taking it down the tip too laugh

Change the breather. If you get the option of buying the updated part - do it.

Having the manifold changed they probably wont have touched the breather.

Id also whip out the swirl flaps if I were you.

Hope it goes well.

I'd be removing the swirl flaps ASAP, have a look here- http://www.bmwland.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&...

Breather part no. is 11127799225

Oil Separator part no. is 11127799366

You'd be as well just getting the actual separator; the rest of it is the same AFAIK.

A handy website- http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

Still need to change it, on top of the engine at the back (other side from manifold). You'll have to remove the filter and tray below the windscreen for access but 5 min job and you can rest easy smile

New swirl flaps have just been put in with this new manifold - and the Indy BMW service chap in ashford told me there is little point me having that work done now.

Do you know whether or not BMW Dealerships will both stock this part, and willingly sell me this part over the counter (crank breather)?

Anyone an idea on price from a dealer? Thing is, i have left it too late to order seeing as spoof is doing it for me tomorrow wink

Thanks for the advice, guys!

For the separator only (the important bit) I was about 20 quid. For the entire breather unit I'd expect about 40 quid.

I'll add that was for a 320Td although I can't imagine there being much of a price difference.
