Hi all,

I need to service my 118d, which still has BMW warranty on it. Do I have to get this serviced at BMW to keep the warranty or can I go to a specialist? If I can got to a specialist, do you know of anyone near Reading/Basingstoke.

Thanks.

Is it a new car warranty or an approved used car warranty? If it's new, then I believe you can take it anywhere as long as they are vat registered and use genuine BMW parts. If it's the used warranty then you have to use BMW as far as I can tell.

I'm sorry, but why would you take it elsewhere??

The BMW service prices on 1 series are cheap, when you come to sell it BMW would trade it out without full warranty so you would get CAP prices rather than Glasses which could cost you £3k, and a private buyer can see the mileage is correct with full BMW service history, I would never buy a car without main dealer history for this reason, and only this reason.

If you intend to run it for 10 years then maybe consider it, but any saving of maybe £50-100 will be nothing compared with the losses if you do want to move it on.
