Gents - I have finally killed my RFTs (after 20k miles!) and am 'upgrading' ( wink ) to non-RFTs.

Falkens are oft recommended online but the guy at my local fitter was trying to steer me towards Bridgestones which are about 30% more expensive but apparently last a 'lot' longer than the Falkens which he thought were good but wore out rather quickly.

Any thoughts or experiences before I take the plunge ?

Cheers, DD.

What car?

In my opinion the Falkens are great value for money. Good honest product that is safe and durable.

I would have no hesitation recommending them. Wear rates? Better than Vredesteins, better than PS2's and cups.

The rears on the OHs E90 320 lasted 18k with about 2k left on the fronts.
Not to bad in my view.

I've done 19k on the rears and replacing them shortly, expecting another 5k or so out of the fronts on my E46 330i.

I have this tyre dilema on my supercharged mustang... I currently have the Falkens on the back, they are tough as old boots, real hard, last for ages, but I think they lose traction far to easy, I often get a wheel spin at near 100 mph...( on a track though). I'm going to try them on the front but need something a bit more grippy on the back, any ideas around the £180 to £200 mark for 275. 35. 18's

Hmmm. I think what he really means is that his money will wear out more quickly if you buy the Falkens 'cause he'll make less on them than he will on the Bridgestones. I put Falken FK452s on my BMW over a year ago - no noticeable reduction in tread yet and they feel just as good as the far more expensive Dunlop SP Sport 2000Es that were on before.

Have them on My E60 M5 and they transformed my 535d excellent grip and decent wear, don't believe the tyre snobs! Try them. Camskil seem best place and deliver very fast.

I tried a set on the rear of my old 530i.

Not a bad tyre, but not much grip in the wet or when cold. Also, got a bit noisy as they wore down.

I thought that the extra coin being asked for the Cont Sport Contacts was money well spent and went back to them.

I had FK452s on my Alpina.
Excellent tyres.
Wet grip was massively increased over the OE Michelin Pilot Sports.
It went from a wheelspinning mess to a car you could confidently plant the foot in.
The only negative I noticed was that after approx 9000 miles, the grip seemed to go off in cold weather.
I was sometimes losing the rear off the power, never mind on it.
But that was only after 9000 miles and only in cold weather.
Once they warmed up, they were fine.

Ok thanks again Gents - that's them ordered. £500 for the lot which isn't bad (ok not the cheapest but I prefer to go local).

To be fitted on Monday so I'm already looking forward to a magic carpet ride biggrin

Sorry - just a little follow up question: can any of you recommend tyre pressures for an E90 330i on non-RFTs ?

(I presume the recommended RFT pressures will be way out for non-RFTs ?)

Got 452's on my 540i all round, the rears have started spinning up a fair bit and are nearly out. Will try and work out how many miles they have done this eve. Is at least 12k I think.

I bought a set of wheels and tyres for my 330d m sport touring tow car with falkens on to get away from the run flats.the cost was £700 and a new set of run flats was about £1000.The last set of falkens was about £350 so if i keep the car for a few years it will save me a few k on tyres and the car rides better, and the original wheels stay mint.

Griff7 did you need different wheels for non run flats?

Conventional tyres will mount fine on wheels designed for RFT. You will only get a problem trying to mount RFT on regular wheels.

No but the package was so cheap and it just kept the originals mint in storage.

Well that's the Falkens on thumbup

Not exactly a life changing transformation in ride quality but definitely a bit better so am moderately happy so far.

Still not sure about tyre pressures - any thoughts/advice please ? Broadly speaking I believe they need a higher pressure than an RFT - does that sound correct ?
