Can anyone who has this function tell me how long it takes to copy a CD to the Hard Drive?
I'm guessing (hope) it doesn't have to play the entire CD at standard speed to achieve this.

I haven't specced a CD changer because of this (specced ipod connection too), so I hope I don't have to go on some very long drives just to get a few CDs copied to the car.

Of course I asked at the dealer but the sales guy didn't really know.

Thanks

Not long. Similar time as it takes to copy a cd to iTunes. (At least this is the case with my E61).

I also have the iPod connection and (as a result) I can't remember the last time I played any music off the BMW harddrive.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.
I don't anticipate having more than about 10 CDs on the Hard Drive, but it's useful on the those occasions when I forget the iPod.

I don't like the fact it compresses music downloaded to the HD.
I tried it, it definitely made the CDs sound flat.
For that reason I only rip the wife's/daughters' music to the HD.
They're not bothered by compressed music, I am.
My less compressed music goes via the USB.
An added advantage of this is that I get album art, which the HD doesn't do.

while we are on the subject I tried downloading the tracks on my ipod and it only did a couple out of over a 1000 .. why is this? they were originally downloaded from itunes and some given to me by a friend. Anyone know why as the BMW dealer doesnt.
