Just had a new windscreen fitted on an 10 reg e91 which had climate comfort windscreen, now the climate control doesn't seem to function correctly any ideas?

Climate comfort: is this what the book/BMW say?

Climate comfort windscreen, or solar reflective coating?

Was just making sure it is as the OEMs use different terminology to what we do in the trade.

What's the problem (btw, who fitted the screen?)?

Well climate control and auto wipe function no longer work very well. BMW say it is probably to do with the sensors that are located in the rearview mirror area. National windscreens are coming back on Monday to take a look. Either way problems started after they changed the windscreen.

Cheers

Are you sure it is a like-for-like screen?

Well I gave them the BMW part number and said it had climate comfort but it is missing the black shade at the top around the rear view mirror...

I'm assuming the part number came from a BMW parts dept; did you stipulate that the glass be OEM branded?

Do you have the part number they put on your invoice copy?

(it might start with 2447A)

Well I gave them the partno. BMW parts dept. Gave me. First they said they didn't have one of those and then said they would get a BMW one, but I don't actually know that if if it is, is there any way to tell? I can see that there is a coating in between and gps signal is still poor through the glass as before. Unfortunately I can't find the note of the partno. I gave them and the receipt doesn't mention it...

Bottom corner (usually RH side) of the glass.

Will have a BMW logo if it is OEM branded. Below that will be the glass manufacturer.

If it is an aftermarket glass, it will just have the glass manufacturer name.

Your NW receipt should have a part number for the screen fitted.

Well there is no part number on the receipt but I had a look at the bottom of the screen and there is no BMW logo!!! surprise surprise list is thefollowing:

Sait-Gobain Sekurit
//Dot 503 AS 1m 1205
E17 43R-00389

Along with a logo depicting climate comfort (u-shaped arrow and temp gauge).

cheers

SGS also do the OEM branded screens; I wouldn't worry to much about the logo tbh (unless you specifically asked for it)

I had my windscreen replaced on my E92 and the first time the guy turned up he got the windscreen out the back of the van and said that it was the wrong one, it would fit but there are something like 4 or 5 different configurations of the same size screen depending on light/rain sensors etc.

He told me they were always sending him out with the wrong ones, maybe they've fitted the wrong configuration as it seems a fairly common error.

All the sensors just clip onto the screen around the rearview mirror...

Yes, there are different configurations; for example, the E91/92 cabriolet screen is the same dimensions as the CC version. Both screens are identical except for the frit (black banding) and the positon(s) of the hardware (mirror boss and rain sensor bracket).

If there is a degree of uncertainty we narrow the options down as much as possible and will sometimes take the either/or options to be safe. A simple VRN check always helps to avoid the embarrassment of taking the wrong windscreen to a job. But we do rely on the owner/driver's knowledge for when the scren may have been an optional extra.

Well a bloke came along on monday and took the rear view mirror off peeled off what he said was the rain sensor off the windscreen (looked like it probably was) cleaned it up and put it back. The auto wipers appear to be working better now and so far the the climate control seems better too.

cheers all

Hmm - better get the two little chips on mine repaired before the whole windscreen needs replacing then (also E91)! Heard similar issues many times.
