and my question is, as it is a 2000 (year) what model designation is it?
At the risk of sounding like the village idiot, what the heck is all this E** and E** that everyone I inquire about parts seems to want to know about. I was hoping that when I gave the year/engine size/body type/fuel this would be all I needed to wade through various parts catalogues.rolleyes
Is there a simple way to understand how the sequence works, please?

Check out the BMW section of the PH Classifieds - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/index.asp?c=15 Has the E numbers next to models and in some instances the years that distinguishes that model.

Oh and welcome to the E39 club.

From this moment on, you will be unable to sell it as it'll be one of the best cars you'll have ever owned. Every time you consider changing it, you'll compare anything you look at with the E39 and always come to the conculsion, you'll only be disappointed.

Or it'll be a complete money pit and it will bankrupt you. You will have lost the house and the wife but you will have paid the bills and still won't part with your beloved E39... all because, well, see previous point.

Either way smile

Hi Peterzoom!

Welcome to E39 Touring ownership!

I do hope the one you've just bought is indeed a solid and excellent example smile

Any questions, just ask!

Cheers, Dennis!
