New Key Needed - Looking for a cheaper option than a stealer
Discussion
One of my keys will lock/unlock the car but will not start it. My BMW specialist said it is a coding issue and wont communicate with the immobiliser.
I know a stealer will charge a lot for a new key so if I was to buy a genuine one from ebay would a specialist be able to code it for use with the car?

Have you tried changing the battery and re-coding it yourself? It's a bit of a faff and you need all the keys handy, but it's in the owners manual (at least that's all I had to do on another E39 5 series).
It was the key that I was using all the time and just stopped starting the car. It opens and closes the doors OK so not sure if it would be the battery but its worth a try. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
