I was wondering the same.
It's a very odd advert isn't it. Very Top Gear like filming.

The two Men are probably married, but (as with most men who drive convertibles) one is secretly gay and wants to have bum sex ?
The girl probably goes running back indoors to tell Mum how Dad was giving a bloke is a hardtop BMW 'the look'.
Mum's suspicions are confirmed, and she comes out with a sledge hammer to smash up his car.
She then marries Dave from accounts who doesn't own a BMW and therefor isn't a cock.
The end.

It means car adverts have to be boring in this country.

Just be glad the cars are allowed to be moving.

The two Men are probably married, or in a secret civil partnership, but (as with most men who drive bmw convertibles) are both secretly gay and want to have bum sex ?
The girl probably goes running back indoors to tell Mum how Dad was giving a bloke is a very ugly car 'the look'.
Mum's suspicions are confirmed, and she comes out with a sledge hammer to smash up his car.
She then marries Dave from accounts who doesn't own a BMW and therefor isn't a cock.
The end.

only slightly biggrin

It sounds like a very plausible story though!

Bet the Ad company were chuckling to themselves "Got the f****rs by the nuts here "

It's just occurred to me, maybe it's an anti BRAKE statement. That girl, she should be able to roam all over that place (all them fountains are like playground and ting) but she doesn't seem to be bothered. In fact her smile is sending a subliminal message "I want you to drive the st out of your beemers and don't think of children, please!".

Official car of the Olympics: looks st, will probably break down like everyother official olyimpic product we.

I like the retro sentiment of a German convertible staff car though - very Berlin 1936

I do not get this BMW joy thing.

BMW is not about joy. It is about arrogance - cars for people who would stand on children and throw puppies through hoops to win cash prizes. What is wrong with that? Why does everyone need to be happy and nice these days?

BMW: when you just know that you are better than every one else

That ad couldn't be gayer if they were wearing chiffion dresses and painted the cars pink

I was baffled by it too. I imagine it began as "two cars doing powersliding through a water fountain" and after it went through the corporate brand safety filter ended up as "two cars driving very slowly in circles, with an inclusive gay element".

To be understood in the context of the whole campaign which is all about marrying the 6 with flowing water.

like a lot of advertsiing this isn't of course about strict narrative so stop analysing it like a computer clicking left brain dominant aspergers sufferer. See it more as communicating emotions and brand values in a more diffuse way.

BMW have a very very strong and powerful pre-existing brand image from the 90's that needs to be changed. Technically the JOY thing is very clever but I think it will take years to work.

FWIW, i believe that these are directed by Daniel Barber, one of the UK's premier 'beauty' directors. I would think he'd prolly want to keep this one quiet though ! Its certainly not on his shworeel.
