Picked up my DMSed 2002 330d on Saturday - how nice a drive is that!?! I was absolutely delighted. I only have anecdotal evidence to suggest that the DMS map is at 245bhp (which I know is not the norm, but the chap who had it done went down to Southampton to have it mapped at 236bhp and then called them out to increase it a little more and having owned a few 240-250bhp cars I can well believe it). Epic levels of acceleration, grip and handling. And 45mpg combined (its a manual), including one hour sitting on the Edgware Road in London? Even better than I had hoped. At last I own a car again which I can drive simply for the sake of driving.

have the Touring Msport version of it (2005) also remapped and with suspension adjustments, it drives nicely indeed!

Only thing I have is an inconsistent warning light (yellow TCS+handbrake lights on) but it resets itself pretty much everytime, no point in going to try and get it checked until it stays on all the time!

So is DMS the best for remapping the 330d? Mine (2004) is in having a new inlet manifold fitted (makes a big difference!) and I am wondering about improving it too...

Rude - Yes I just read your other thread. Sorry to hear that! The DMS map seems pretty good but it is the only BMW I have ever driven with a map and so I have nothing to compare it to. I think there are a few others out there that are highly rated but DMS does seem to be one of the better ones.

Yes.

Get your deposit back and buy one in a better colour with leather. biggrin

Sorry, only kidding, as a trader I would be a bit scared of that car as think I would struggle to sell it. Goes to show none of us know it all. If you like it, then thats good enough. Good luck with it, and enjoy it.

From speaking with others, the 35d map is, considerable.

Whilst in untouched form it is brisk, it doesn't set your pants on fire. A diesel never will.

When DMS'd or whoever you choose, it does become a fairly formidable commuter.

It will be E46 M3 E39 M5 fast if taken to 360bhp. This however I believe is beyond the recommended.

There are many. Not mapping mine (plan to keep it for a while) and it's quick enough as it is but you can't argue with 350bhp/510lbs-ft - that would set most people's pants on fire.

TN - 286bhp and 580Nm actually ;-)
Most stock run in ones kick out over 300bhp and around 600Nm. Not bad for a soot chucker.

Quickest accelerating car I've driven is an Evo FQ360 (0-60 in 3.9s) - definitely felt a fair bit nippier than my 335d ;-)

No, I'm a realistic 535d owner, an endangered species.

Its not just the power increase, that is detrimental to the 335d its the torque, the ZF (GA6HP26Z) auto gearbox has a limit of around 700Nm, if you take it past that figure you are in dangerous territory and the life of the box is shortened somewhat. There are some tricks that can be done with the box though, even when not increasing the power, the gearbox ECU can be reconfigured to change up slower/faster, earlier/later to give better acceleration/economy. However doing all of this will take it outside of its warranty.

A very worthwhile 2p IMO.

Does making things easier make it duller? Quite possibly!

Does anyone have a graph of the torque and power curve for a stock E46 330d?
Would be interesting to see how flat the torque is across the range once on boost.

ETA:

Power:

Torque

I believe these are at the fly.

I think that the way it has >280 FtLb of torque from 1,800rpm right up to 4,000rpm means that in gear acceleration can be pretty impressive. I like 4th gear on mine, as I can nail it up a slip road and use that whole rpm range. :-)
