BMW HISTORY CHECK

HI about to buy a bmw, the guy claims he lost the service books, anyone know how to check bmw history, he claims bmw got the car on their records from 03-06 its a 53 plate. just wondering how i track dwn the rest of the history, are bmw not able to know the history of a car if its not serviced at their own dealerships. im aware i can check the MOT on vosa's site, but i really need to know the service history of this car

I saw your post in General Gassing, and your going to get burnt if you buy this car.

Just buy another one! It's not like £7k is bottom of the market for an E46!

Totally agree, give it a wide berth unless the seller comes up with the SH. There are plenty out there.

Phone BMW Customer Services...they'll tell you which dealership it visited, on what date and the mileage at the time. You can then phone the individual dealerships to find out what work was carried out at which visit.

BMW can't tell you what was done at other garages so if it hasn't been at a dealership since 2006 then the history is gone. A HPI check might help with mileage verification though.

£7k is a lot for an E46 though (I haven't seen your other post yet though)

cheers guys i think ill give this car a miss i checked vosa site and managed to track down previous mots, its pretty vague and has gaps in the cars mot history, also it was advised by one test centre the car has play in the steering rack, steering racks arents cheap , also ive contacted bmw and apparently in 11/06, the car went in for a reset of the rollbars, dont exactly know what this means but its related to the hood being faulty, also i beleive a crash can cause this to occur, this cars definately a lemon. i think ill stick to a 01/02 plate from a reputable garage.this cars definately got a hidden past, either that, or its disappeared of the face of the earth for some time, cheers guys, much appreciated
