IIRC, off the top of my head,

1) Remove the door trim strip by carefully prising it off. 2-3 screws behind this, 1 screw at back of internal door release lever.
2) Remove your electric door mirror adjuster, 1 screw behind this.
3) Remove 2x blacking cover from underside of the arm rest, 1 screw behind each of these.
4) There are poppers around the bottom and up the sides that are released by pulling, then lift the door card upwards to release from top rail.

Airbag is bolted to the door and remains there.

Remember to disconnect the battery if you're going to disconnect the airbag, else you trip the airbag warning light on the dash.

Have had both front door cards off on my E46 saloon. Easy job, just be careful not to round the hex heads in the door grab handle.

Nearly - I have just done the job tonight on my E46 touring and it took all of 5 minutes.

There are 5 screws in total, two behind the trim strip, two in the arm rest and one behind the electric wingmirror switch (you need to carefully prise this out with a flatbladed screwdriver or blunt knife).

I dis-connected the battery first so that I could remove the airbag and get to the inside of the door to fix the door release.

Easy little job in the end
