E39 530 Sport - What rear tyres
Discussion
I hate FK452s now, used to love them, but after 5 sets I went from Michelins to these and hated them, very hard ride and very noisy, took them off after a few weeks.
I would also not mix front and rears on a 530i, they can get very twitchy if you get it wrong. Not always, but could end up being expensive.
What is on the fronts now?

Conti SportContact3 for the back (and front) of my 530i Sport. Consistent top performare in Evo tyre reviews. Premium German car, premium German tyres!
+1Some things I skimp on, but not tyres, brakes nor steering.
Conti SC AFAIK about £120 a corner.
Try to ensure you go to a place that uses a torque
wrench to put them on, not just an air gun.
I suggest the Continental Contact Sport 3's or the Michelin Pilot Sport 3's
I personally had the Contact 3's on my car and found them to have brilliant grip and lasted me a very long time.
I have just switched to try Pirellis Pzero Nero to see how they perform in comparison.
Hope this helps

General consensus seems to be CSC4's or Falken FK452's. I currently have Falken FK452's on the front (fitted by a previous owner) so for consistency, I could go with Falkens on the rear (Is there any evidence that you need to have the same tires on the front and the rear?)
Concerned about the road noise reported though, as previously said, my commute is mainly high speed mway so low road noise is a pre-req.
I currently have Nexus N3000's on the rear which seem to be a budget tyre (?).
ETA: On my previous cars, M3 & TT, I have always gone for Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's, but as the 5 is a very different car and my journey is very different (i.e long commute as opposed to short burst to work in the previous cars), this is why I'm asking here. Does anyone use this tyre on their 5?

Another vote for Conti sport contact 3's here, do up to a 1000 miles per week in my 530 sport.
Used to run it on Bridgestone REO50A's which had better grip but a less progressive brakeaway (if you like playing with the ESP off on the odd occasion). Stopped using them after a pair of rears wore prematurely with the inner sidewalls splitting open and then had a front tyre with circa 10K blow out on the motorway.
Use Conti sport 3's with a 97 load index and have had no problems, good ride, quiet excellent grip in the wet and 25k miles from a set of rears.
