E90 3-Series bushes...........why?
Discussion
Can anyone explain the design considerations for their being a whopping 35 rubber bushings on the E90 3-Series and the E81 1-Series suspension systems? Am I being pessimistic in thinking that BMW sold so many E46 bushes that regularly failed and doubtless made a nice profit doing so that it made commercial sense to fill the new cars with similar bushes, or are the run-flats so harsh, its the only way to quieten down the ride?
Either way, it doesn't bode well for the BMW design team or are they designing for the marketing and aftersales dept?
At least Powerflex make long-life urethane replacements for them including some nice newly designed urethane bearing joints.
My local dealer does not even replace the bushes with the ones available from BMW, they replace the whole arm!!!
Someones being taken for a ride here methinks.
