Hello All,

So picked up my e39 530i Sport (2003) at the end of last week. It has the factory fitted widescreen sat nav but no disc so will need one of those. Also, it came fitted with a factory phone kit. I've managed to pair up my iPhone 3GS and it works but the functionality is quite limited. My questions are:

1) Which nav disc do I need? CD or DVD? Where to buy? Likely cost?

2) What are my options with phone? Is it possible to replace the Nokia cradle with an iPhone one on an e39? If so, which bits do I have to buy? Just the 'pop out' bit or the bit below that too? What would this give me? Charging?

3) What functions does the e39 have for the telephone? Is there a way to get it to read the contacts from my iPhone? My ULF module is 84.21 693 1854 version if that helps.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello mate. To try andd answer some of your questions.

1. The type of disc you need depends on what nav drive you have. In a 2003 model i would expect it to be MK4 or possibly a MK3. The MK4 is the latest version and DVD based rather than the MK3 and below which use CD's.

You can identify which you have by one of two ways. Look at the nav drive in the boot, below the slot that you put the disc in, if it has the DVD logo, it is a MK4, if not, most probably a MK3. (Very very unlikely that it will be mk1 or 2)

Alternatively, press menu on the head unit, then scroll to set, you should see a number in the top right of the screen, the first number in the row tells you which MK of drive you have, Mine is 3-1/63, which means i have a MK3 drive, and am running version 6.3 software, which is the latest that a MK3 can have.

2. Your ULF is probably quite old, i can't view the list of part numbers in work, but have a look here yourself.

The easy solution to the bluetooth problem would probably be to upgarde to a newer ULF module mate. Have a little browse on ebay!
