My BMW is due a service

Hello everyone!

I have a 2008 1 series (123d) and is due it's second service, (1st service was by previous owner done at BMW) the car has just done over 34k miles, can someone enlighten me in what needs to be done for it's second service please, reason being I'm trying to get an idea of costs, if it's just oil & filter change I'll probably end up taking it to BMW as the cost won't be to excessive over an Independent garage, but if it requires more work than that then I shall take it to an independent garage instead.

Also Oxford is my closet city, can anyone recommend a good Inde Garage within a 50mile radius please. I do know there is an independent garage in my area called BM-Worx - any opinions would be grateful please for that garage.

Can you not cycle through the service menu and see what is required like on the E90s?

With a car that new any saving you make taking it to an indepedant will be cancelled out by the reduced value.

There is a school of thought amongst enthusiasts that a good indy does a better job than a BMW dealer, and whilst this may be true, 99% of people queing up to buy your 1 Series diesel will be of the 'Full BMW history' school of thought.

To be honest, BMW servicing isnt even that expensive anyway.

^^^^^This. Condition Based Servicig, it will probably need Vehicle inspection, oil & filter, microfilter, Brakefluid change, but check the menu.

Yes you can, I just checked, and the only thing highlighted in yellow was the Oil symbol - so i assume that is all that is required?

But there won't be anything which goes outside the menu price, so you won't be paying the hourly rate.

Great shout Fox, when i was looking for a new car i was always looking for full manufacture service history.

however my work colleague has 1 coupe & paid £200 for "while you wait" service (this was an oil/filter change) which i thought was a little bit on the steep side, but hey I suppose that premium you pay for

Surely it depends on whether the re-sale value is an issue, if its on HP / PCP then surely it wont, as long as a reputable indy has done the work.
