Bit the bullet and dropped the car off to have a full system built and fitted to my 550i. Just finished fitting the m5 rear bumper to accomodate the quad oval outlets so hopefully IL be getting it back tomorrow afternoon. Stock system must have weighted over 100lb!

Will post a sound link and some pictures when done.

Tell me more!! smilesmile

I collect my 550i M Sport touring (manual) from a dealership down south tomorrow. The quad exhaust is definitely on my list after fitting 172 Spider rims. I see MStyle.co.uk do the package for about £1200 including a genuine painted M5 rear bumper.

Where are you getting the work done?

Look forward to the pictures and videos.

Ive already sourced reconditioned a set. Plus the official size for the touring is 4x 8.5" wide, rather than the staggered setup that you'll have.

Shadow chrome sounds good, do you have any pictures?

Now tell me more about your exhaust smile

Can't wait for my 400+ mile drive home tomorrow.

8.5" width on the rear...!! good luck keeping that straight. 275/285 tyres just about cope in the dry on 9.5" rims.smile

I'll be sticking with the 245's... it's not a problem. The car comes with 245's as standard on the 18" rims anyway, pretty sure the saloons are they same, so if it's good enough............

Cars are definitely oversized in the tyre department anyway. My remapped 530d put out 600NM and managed just fine on 245's. The 550i is 120NM shy of that.

Besides, it makes things more entertaining smile As would a LSD.

One thing I don't doubt is how awesome this will sound but I wonder if you will lose any torque? (or bhp?) as has happened when replacing the entire system on some other models in the past.

Love the 550i and hardly ever see any. Only driven the 750i with the same engine but it was a gem of a unit!

Agree on excessive tyres though.

Collected my 550i yesterday. Fantastic car, really is. But it's very very quiet, much quieter than my E39 540i. You need to have the stereo off to hear the engine. An exhaust and perhaps an intake would definitely liven things up.

Did you get your exhaust fitted?

Hopefully pick it up early next week, its quite a lot of work since its going from the bottom of the manifolds all the way back. Most systems available from the states seem to utilise the centre resonator boxes.... were not! wink

Saying about mid week is dependent upon the sound as we will play about to get something nice sounding... although nothing as loud as my old SC Monaro!

Look forward to the results smile

Meantime, any tips on how to get a little more noise from the car until I'm ready for an exhaust? I'm thinking panel filter, removing engine sound proofing, exhaust valve you can keep open etc etc.

Think I may need to do some digging on the US forums where the 550i's are more popular.

Great car the 550! Had one in carbon black for about 18 months. Swapped mine for GTR to get (way) more oomphsmile
The 172's should have been standard imhosmile

S800

Well, I used to have the 550 as well as a GT3 mk1 and a tuned 964 but with worsening parking availability and less time to use them all I decided to go to a "one car" solution - so far so good! smile

Not sure what I would replace it with tbhbiggrin
