At the weekly Bassets pole bike meet a bike lost control and went into the crowd. A woman spectator has been killed.

I used to go nealy every week to this meet and its mainly just people park up have a chat then ride off again.

just watching the news on BBC and as usual sensationalist journo going on about thousands of bikes rampaging at speed through all the villages

expect Police to"crack down" on this "anti social" behaviour.

typical jurno waffling on about something he knows knows nothing about , their was a bike accident near Dorchester at the weekend ,looked like the car had pulled across infront of the bike no doubt its in the news stating the biker was riding at reckless speed etc etc gets my hackles up

The same story on the beeb website seems quite balanced.

yeah agreed, It was just the TV woman making comments.

She finished the piece with the " in the next few minutes thousand of bikers will be speeding etc."

All our local papers are full of the usual lies about the bassets pole meet i think it will be stopped now their used to be a bikers meet on thursdays at the Turf pub on the A5 and that was banned after a few months because of sad twats moaning about people having lives outside of work.

if the kn*b heads who think that pulling a wheelie (or trying to) in amongst hundreds of other people is a good idea, didn't do it, then the accident rate may well drop. How did the tw@t lose control? I presume he didn't fall off whilst riding normally did he? If these c0ck-jockeys are so talented, why don't they take on Kevin Carmicheal, etc in stunt comps? It's because they're feckless one trick ponys, who are thick as and have no common sense.....

Now, why do bikers get a bad name I wonder? Why do the police feel the need to attend most bike meets? I've seen accident like this at both Box hill (south) and also up at the devils bridge (north west). Someone dying isn't what anyone wants.

I don't know how it happened yet Fergus. Nothing being said on teh TV just hints at speed by local residents etc.

I do know that there is a bend in front of the Mcdonalds car park and that people stand there and watch other people go around and get there knees down.

I agree with you this is not the place to show boat with hundreds of people inches away.

What the media have forgoten is that this meet goes on every tuesday and thousands of people go. This has been the first accident as far as I know.

There used to be a bit of this at a pub near where I live. Main road, bit of "loud acceleration", a few wheelies, etc. Then some lads turned up in a van, and proceeded to do burn-outs up the road, extreme wheelies, etc, crowd into the road stuff. Then the lads put the bike back in the van, buggered off, never to be seen again. Cue heavy police presence for the next few weeks, peed off locals, etc. Thanks very much, Superbike Magazine, we know who you were.

AFAIK, the 19yr old rider of the unfaired CBR1000 was trying to get his knee down when he lost control. The bike left the road and went into the crowd.

My first thoughts go, of course, to the family of the lady who was tragically killed. Secondly, the lad who caused the accident can't be feeling to chipper at the moment. He's young and inexperienced and shouldn't be on a 1000cc bike, regardless of how old the bike is etc.

Then I thought what are people doing standing/sitting on the outside of a bend where numtpies are showboating? Surely it's common sense to stand back and away, not on the outside of the corner, approx 5 ft from the road. Some education needed there.

I've been to Bassetts a lot over the last 4 years but was not there on Tuesday. It has degenerated into a bit of a stunt fest, but not to such a degree as to make it ridiculous. It's highly unfortunate that this has happened. Maybe now the crowds will stop goading people to ride outside of their "ability bubble".

When I leave on my Mille R, you hear all sorts of comments about doing wheelies, burnouts etc. I tend to bimble out of the car park and gently make my way home.

Not rising to peer pressure might have saved the ladies life and the muppets pride. He will have to live with that for the rest of his life, so let's hope that he can cope. I'm not sure I could, or at least, not for a long long time.

The key is responsibility and riding with your mind infront of your bike, rather that leaving it at home.

it was just a matter of time before a bike went into the crowds at Bassets Pole you didnt have to be a mind reader to see it happening, not sure where the accident happened but my friends and I would never stand on the outside of the curve on grass verge outside McD's, we had discussed this numerous times that something would happen eventually....

There have been plenty of bike accidents there, seen a couple myself, that many bikers taking chances the odds are some are going to fall
