Shame about the lack of parking in Central London.

I counted 82 at free car parks in Finsbury Circus and no free bike spaces one lunch time. I also spoke with the policeman responsible for bike theft in the area and he attends meetings with the local council representatives. He said that he agrees with the need for more spaces with appropriate rails to lock bikes to, but apparantly the council will not listen. Instead they are trying to get the bikes off the street and into a single NCP car park. WHY??? - They want to give the streets back to pedestrians and do not want bikes on the steets. TO55ERS. Apparantly the council rep gets a load of stick at most of the meetings he attends but they will not listen. (Copper was a really good bloke by the way)

Frankly, I find it unbelievable that I have to get into work by 8.15 latest in order to guarantee finding a space in Finsbury Circus when there is Sooo many spare car parks spare. Of course, it is not obvious to those sandal wearing, bus taking, 36 hour working, freaks that would not stand a chance of holding down a job on the commercial world. (Sorry, this is a bit of s sore point, especially as I have to walk for 10 mins to get to work in hot leathers in 25 deg heat!)

Cheers,

Matt

Sorry cant help with the London parking thing but-

Interesting bit in Ride this month- that apparently you can't get a ticket for parking on the pavement if both wheels are off the ground.

Ok for the scooter boys & those old dakar type BMW jobbies with the huge long centre stands, but not really practicle for a sports bike tho 'eh.

My mate has a scoot for commuting (in addition to a 748r) and he hangs the numberplate on velcro. When he parks (on the pavement) he whips it off & takes it with him - has not yet had a ticket because they can't find the reg number.... if he does ever get a ticket the £40 fine will be peanuts compared to time/effort saved.

Dunno about you lot but ive not displayed a tax disc on my bike for about 4 yrs, since some little toerag pinched it. Used to keep it in my wallet, but just tax it & leave the disc at home now days.

Bit confused here.. I have "one of those dakar type" things (not a BMW!). Yes I have a long centre stand, but it only raises the rear off the floor. its impossible unless you insert a lump of wood or something under the front wheel.
Due to be taking mine into the city next week for the first time

i know exactly how you feel mate. I did a training course at number 30 Finsbury Circus. The course didn't start until about 9:30 i leart the hard way that i had to be there by 8:30 (when the doors open) to get a good space (at the front of the box). The first day i had to park at work in the basement up by Great Eastern Street and walk back in bike gear, about a 10-15min walk through broadgate circus. Its crap that there are not enough parking spaces in London.

I haven't has the tax disc on now for about 8months and not one ticket. Do parking warden know that bikes have tax disc?

I ride in to the city every day on my 749R - and I park it (for free) in the NCP - which is about two minutes further away from the nearest bike bay (which is always full and your bike get scratched to b*ggery)

I have to say - that fortunatley you can park directly outside the addendants cubicle thang - so it's about as safe as you can get it.

It's gonna be fun getting home this evening - avoiding getting blown around the place....

This was in MCN a few weeks ago, could you leave a pair of paddock stands chained to the railings?
