Resurrecting an unused scooter
Discussion
Chaps,
I'm about to acquire a scooter for free which has stood unused outside (albeit under a bit of cover - metal bike half-shed thing) for 4 years or so. It hasn't been started or even moved in all this time. I'm going to put it in the back of my car and get it in the garage where I can take a closer look at it. Fairly handy at spannering so I don't mind stripping the thing down if needs be.
Anyone know what is most likely to be wrong with it barring the expected bit of surface rust, flat battery and flat tyres? I was going to replace the battery, tyres and trim for starters and go from there. Apparently it was working fine when stored so it was in ok condition; it's done 18k.

I'd be tempted to take the spark plug out and pop a little squirt of diesel in, to help free off any gunk around the rings. A day or two before you try and start it. If its four stroke when you fit the new battery turn it over for a little while on the button, with the HT lead disconnected.
Thanks - I don't know what make/model it is, I'll take a look in a minute. Brakes are a good idea Doogz, cheers...they're probably rusted to feck by now.
Edit: It's a 2003 Peugeot Vivacity, I don't know if it's the 50 or 100cc version. Now I've got to figure out how to remove the inbuilt lock as it's locked around a post and the old owner doesn't have the keys any more.
