Can anyone recommend a decent insurer?

I ave only just passed my CBT but have held a car licence for 3 odd years so im no stranger to a road. Before that i had a scooter so im used to everyday situations. Im 20 years old and to insure a CBR 125 at best is £800, the lovely people at Honda even offering me £1400 a year for a 12.5bhp learner legal bike covered TPFT?

The world has gone mad!!!

I want this to improve my skills on a bike before i begin my lessons and test which are scheduled for later this summer, but its just not gonna happen because some idiots decide to charge me half the cost of the bike in insurance premiums.

Bastards!!!

Two companies came up trumps for me:

Roadsure bikes

Bikesure (part of Adrian Flux).

Ive just passed my DAS and im paying £350 TPFT on a 600cc Bandit. Thats unlimited miles and full legal, breakdown, pillion provision, TPO on other bikes.

Try H&R, www.insurance2000.co.uk

Thanks for the advice mate. Only thing is that its £1495 TPFT.

I give up?

1) Wait 12 months
2) Pass Test (Direct Access)
3)Try again on proper bike where i can justify insurance premiums because ill get something back from it.

i went through the AA and managed to get a quote of £311 TPFT with Hastings Insurance. With a £250 excess.
I ride a Sachs XTC125cc.
Next best was from CIA for £300 with a £360 excess (10% of the value of the bike)
This was in october, not sure how much they would be now. I don't think that the AA do insuance for bikes anymore though.

Failing that try H&R they quoted me £530 for a 600cc CBR6 98reg. and thats with no NCB for the bike.

Yes, do 2 then 3. You'd get bored of a restricted 125 after a month (if that) anyway.

Buying a 2 or 3 year old bike should help keep the insurance down as well.
